Nordic Trail Walk for Oxfam

The Tauranga (New Zealand) based Nordic Walking team of Wendy, Colin, Peter, Steffi are once again preparing to take on the OXFAM Trailwalker Challenge of a 100km at Taupo on the 14th April 2007 (you may remember reading about the teams exploits via Nordic Walking News last year?).

This event is significantly orientated towards raising funds to overcome poverty and injustice around the world. In 2006 this same 4-man team, motivation4u, walked the 100km, they started together, stayed together & crossed the finish line together in 21 hrs 24 mins.

This year team motivation4u has set a target to walk the 100km in less than 20hrs. Their fundraising goal is set at $2000. Anyone interested in sponsoring the team can do so by visiting and clicking on Trailwalkers –Teams...

...You’ll see "motivation4u", Team number 6, and then click on the BIG Green Screen TEAM FUNDRAISING – MAKE A DONATION.

Nordic Walking News wishes "Good luck" to:

Calling all UK based Nordic Walkers!

Remembering that Nordic Walking is just one of the sports that come under the 'umbrella concept' of Nordic Fitness - Here is some information that I hope will be of interest to UK based readers. It is from Iain Ballentine, Nordic Development Officer for Snowsport England... David.

Snowsport England are very keen to encourage Nordic Walkers into cross-country skiing. This weekend and next, 200 Brits will take part in ski marathons in Europe - see the story here:

There are clubs and instructors affiliated to Snowsport England across the UK that will help you prepare for cross-country skiing, both on rollerskis and on snow. You would be warmly welcomed.

Please do get in touch if you would like any further information...

Iain Ballentine

Note: See the recent postings on this website re: the Nordic Walking News, Cross-Country Skiing holiday to Norway last month... David.
